Pyroxene-quartz porphyry

The platy structure is typical for the Pyroxene-quartz porphyry of Wermsdorf. This rock was used for building the hunting lodges and paving the castle yards. The “Wermsdorf Slabs“ were also a popular construction material for individual buildings and in garden design. In recent times the rock has been used especially for road construction and as an aggregate in concrete.
